About Us
The Biased AI in Systems of Education (BAISed) research collaborative partners with teachers and technology companies to transform how students engage with AI—turning potential inequities into opportunities for critical thinking and creativity. We co-design curricula that help students become active questioners and creative users of AI tools.
Our Mission
Our research reveals concerning patterns of implicit bias in educational AI tools—biases that can reinforce inequities and limit student potential. We believe the most effective way to address this challenge is by partnering directly with teachers, who understand their students’ needs and can transform these problematic tools into opportunities for critical thinking.
We collaborate with educators to co-design curricula and learning experiences that help students recognize AI’s limitations and biases while harnessing its creative potential. Through workshops and co-creation sessions, we work alongside teachers to develop customized approaches that fit their unique classroom contexts. Our ongoing research examines both how biases manifest in different AI tools and which pedagogical strategies most effectively build students’ critical thinking and creative confidence.
We also partner with technology companies to understand how AI tools are designed and to advocate for features that support critical and creative learning. These partnerships help us bridge the gap between how AI is built and how it’s used in classrooms, ensuring our curricula reflect both technical realities and pedagogical best practices.

Our Core Values
Evidence-Based Solutions
We identify biases through research and translate findings into actionable strategies teachers can use. Every solution is grounded in data about how AI impacts different student populations.
Teacher-Centered Design
We believe educators are the key to addressing AI bias, co-creating solutions that work in real classrooms. Teachers’ expertise drives our approach to transforming problematic tools into learning opportunities.
Transformative Learning
We turn the challenge of biased AI into opportunities for students to develop critical thinking and creative skills. Every bias becomes a chance to question, analyze, and innovate.
